Assignment #2 Anwar Oil
Drilling for oil in the Anwar area of Alaska would decrease U.S. dependency on foreign oil by about 600 million barrels of oil to 9.2 billion barrels oil (U.S. Department of the Interior). These are the highest estimates I found. Other estimates are 1.69 to 14.77 billion barrels of recovable oil (April 1997). Proper tire inflation estimates would save about 600,000 barrels of oil a day according to Jim Geraghty on the Hot Air Blog. This number is considered the most optomistic.A well tuned automobile would save up to 6 million barrels of oil a day. A more reasonable savings amount would be 330,000 barrels of oil a day according to Sublime Blovations. The U.S. imports about 12 million barrels of oil of the 20 million barrels of oil a day it refines.
